It has emerged that Trevor Muriithi, the Multimedia University (MMU) student who was mercilessly tortured by police, only joined the school two weeks ago.
In a horrifying video, six police officers in official uniforms were captured raining kicks and blows on the young man, and some also used their batons on him during a strike by the students.
"I decided to run upstairs, and that is when I heard them say get that one, get that one, and that is how I broke my leg. I raised my hands to surrender, but they continued beating me badly," said Muriithi.

"He pulled my leg and started forcing me to stand with the broken leg. I tried to but could not walk, so I fell down," he added.
After a few minutes, a police officer threw a tear gas canister directly at the young man, and it exploded. He tried pushing it away, but a police officer threatened him.
According to Remmy Osati, the secretary-general of the MMU student council, Muriithi had only been in the school for two weeks before he was badly beaten. He has given the authorities 48 hours to arrest the officers.
"He was just a first year, you do damage like that then you just expect us to just sit back and assume that things are just okay? " he wondered.
TUKO.co.ke chatted with lawyer Collins Wanderi to determine whether the young student can sue the police for the inhuman acts committed against him.
Apparently, Muriithi can sue the Attorney General and The National Police Service Commission. The officers are agents of the State they acted beyond what is considered rational and reasonable in quelling public disturbance and disorder.
"They used excessive force on a student who was not violent or belligerent. His rights were violated and he was treated in a manner that violated his rights to move freely and dignity of his person. Lots of people have sued the AG and NPSC successfully. He should also report to IPOA so that action is taken against the officers for criminal conduct," said the lawyer.
The young man should ask a computer cyber forensics specialist to download the video and issue a certificate to show that it is an authentic representation of what happened to him. IPOA has such skills in its staff compliment," he added.
Multimedia University students had blocked the busy Magadi Road on Tuesday, September 17, causing a traffic snarl-up.
The students were protesting the water scarcity and low-to-no internet access within the institution.
University staff and students scrambled for water to extinguish a fire that broke out amid the protests.
