A Nairobi woman was left teary-eyed after her friend organized a surprise birthday party at an upscale restaurant.

Doreen Atsianji "Dee" had planned to spend her special day giving back to the community, only to find herself at the center of a heartwarming celebration.

Dee, who turned a year older today, shared with TUKO.co.ke that she had originally intended to engage in charity work for her birthday.

"It’s a kind gesture and I love it, especially coming after I've received a lovely poem from my boyfriend," she expressed with joy.

Dee revealed that since her birthday plans changed, she will make up by visiting her home village of Shamakhokho after schools reopen.

While there, she intends to distribute sanitary pads to girls from underprivileged backgrounds.

"My love for the girl child is palm top. I have almost two trucks of pads ready to distribute to schools," Dee added.
