Russia - President Vladimir Putin has reportedly encouraged Russians to use coffee and lunch breaks to engage in intimacy as part of efforts to address the country’s declining birth rate.

Health Minister Dr Yevgeny Shestopalov has echoed this sentiment, stating that busy work schedules should not be an excuse for avoiding procreation and suggesting that people should use their breaks to focus on family expansion, given how swiftly life passes by.

"You can engage in procreation during breaks because life flies by too quickly," said Yevgeny, according to Metro.

Politician Anna Kuznetsova has also urged women to start having children at a younger age.

''You should start giving birth at 19-20 years old. Then, statistically, the family will be able to have three, four, or more children," she argued.

Why is Russia advocating for intimacy in workplaces?

NDTV reported that this push to increase the birth rate comes in response to the current fertility rate of about 1.5 children per woman, which is significantly below the 2.1 rate needed to maintain a stable population.

Additionally, more than one million predominantly younger Russians have emigrated due to President Putin’s ongoing conflict with Ukraine, further exacerbating concerns about the country's population decline.

''The preservation of the Russian people is our highest national priority. The fate of Russia depends on how many of us there will be. It is a question of national importance," said the president.
