Austria boss Ralf Rangnick coached Manchester United briefly in 2022 following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

His spell was forgettable, but his press conferences were memorable, with many claiming most of what he said was spot on.

The German recently revisited one of his most famous comments before a UEFA Nations League clash.

The 66-year-old coached the Red Devils for seven months after taking over in 2021 and was later replaced by current boss Erik Ten Hag.

Under the German, the club suffered some humiliating defeats and produced lacklustre performances, prompting him to make honest comments about the situation.

In one of his press conferences, Rangnick said the club needed an "operation of the heart," a comment referenced many times. Man United went through a bad patch.

Erik ten Hag has won two titles at the club and is under pressure following a poor start to the season. The Dutchman admitted Rangnick was right.

“[Ralf] Rangnick was absolutely right. We’ve been working very hard about that [high standards] for two years, but he said it just right; it’s a thorough, very complex operation,” via Football365.

Rangnick revisits famous comment

Speaking before Austria's 2-1 defeat to Erling Haaland's Norway, Rangnick said he was right about his assessment.

"I probably made that statement when the season was almost over about two years ago," Rangnick told TV2 via 90min. "It is probably only two or three weeks since Erik ten Hag was asked the same thing. Then he said that I was right in my analysis. I don't know how many players they have signed since, but it looks like I was right."

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe taking over the football operations at the club earlier this year, the club has offloaded many players Rangnick coached.

Under Erik ten Hag, the club produced their worst Premier League campaign in 2023/24. This season, they have suffered two defeats in their three games, including a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford against Liverpool.

Man United told to fire Erik ten Hag

TUKO.co.ke earlier reported that Man United legend Dwight Yorke urged Man United to get rid of Erik ten Hag and hire Zinedine Zidane.

The legendary striker feels Zidane brings pedigree, which will attract some top players around the world.

The Dutchman is in his third season as coach and has won two trophies. However, the club's Premier League performances have been disappointing.
