Nairobi - Tana River senator Danson Mungatana has filed a censure motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to the notice of motion seen by TUKO.co.ke, Mungatana claimed Gachagua has a constitutional obligation to adhere to the general leadership and integrity code for state officers.

"Article 260 of the constitution categorises the deputy president as a state officer whose conduct and behaviours shall abide by the provisions of Article 75 of the Constitution of Kenya and the general leadership and integrity code for state officers contained in the Leadership and Integrity Act," the motion reads in part.

Why Mungatana wants Gachagua's conduct discussed

Among the grounds for Gachagua's censure motion include making utterances regarding employment and allocation of resources, incitement, marginalising a section of Kenyans and heightening tensions among different ethnic communities in Kenya.

The Tana River senator claimed that Gachagua has made utterances that continue to create tensions and divisions among Kenyans since assuming office.

"The public utterances made by Rigathi have marginalised sections of Kenyans, created and continue to heighten tension among different ethnic communities in Kenya," he stated in the motion.

Mungatana argued that the aforementioned incidences amount to misconduct and contravention of the provisions of Article 75 of the Kenyan Constitution, therefore demeaning the office he occupies.

"The Senate pursuant to the standing order 101 Section 1, expresses its displeasure and disappointment with the conduct of Hon. Rigathi Gachagua as the Deputy President of Kenya and therefore we need to censure him," he added.

How Gachagua warned Ruto over the impeachment plot

Meanwhile, the deputy president cautioned President William Ruto against entertaining his impeachment plans.

Speaking at a church service at Pentecostal Evangelistic Fellowship of Africa (PEFA) Church in Thika Town, on Sunday, September 22, Gachagua asked Ruto to keep his house in order amid divisions in UDA party.

Gachagua told Ruto to shun betrayal politics and keep his promise of ensuring his deputy is not humiliated, adding that if he cannot keep that promise, then he will not be trusted to keep any other.
