Nairobi - Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again hit out at Kenya Kwanza Alliance lawmakers plotting his impeachment.

What Gachagua said about his impeachment plan

Speaking to a charged crowd at Marikiti Market in Nairobi on Friday, September 20, Gachagua claimed there are plans to impeach him and replace him with a puppet.

The second in command claimed many Kenya Kwanza Alliance MPs had been bought to impeach him.

The visibly angry Gachagua warned that those planning his ouster would not succeed, given that Kenyans elected him and not lawmakers.

"I was elected by Kenyans, not Members of Parliament. They are paying MPs to try and intimidate me, but let me remind them, I was elected by Kenyans, and only Kenyans can decide whether I go home," Gachagua said.

Gachagua rebuked the lawmakers behind his impeachment push, terming them selfish.

"We have selfish MPs. While traders were being displaced here in Marikiti, they were busy in Nyahururu planning how to intimidate me instead of working for the people who elected them," he added.

What will happen to MPs planning to impeach Gachagua

Meanwhile, former Laikipia county woman representative Cate Waruguru strongly criticised lawmakers for orchestrating an impeachment plot against the deputy president.

During the burial of Lamu deputy governor Raphael Wanyua where Gachagua was also present, Waruguru warned lawmakers targeting the deputy president.

The former lawmaker said MPs pushing for Gachagua's impeachment will not stand a chance come the 2027 General Election.

According to Waruguru, the second in command fought hard to ensure Kenya Kwanza won the 2022 election, adding that voters will not let those humiliating him go scot-free.
