Kiambu - Nyandarua senator John Methu has urged Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to disarm his traps around State House.
Following President William Ruto's win in the August 2022 vote, the DP claimed to have set traps in and around the seat of power, State House, to block ODM leader Raila Odinga from accessing Ruto.
The second in command affirmed he would 'protect' Ruto against advances from the veteran opposition leader.

However, the DP's traps seem to have failed as Ruto called for the formation of a broad-based government, incorporating ODM officials in his new Cabinet.
The youthful senator recognised the broad-based government championed by President Ruto.
He explained that it was time the DP disarmed his traps to avoid entangling their new friends in government.
Methu encouraged the second in command to seek an alliance with other leaders, singling out Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya.
"We have all decided to support and help build the government, even President William Ruto has said it should be broad-based. Even the person we were competing against, Raila Odinga, has joined the fold. Now, I want to ask you to disarm the traps we set before because they might catch our friends. And you should seek out new allies. There is only one person we can tell you not to worry too much about, and that’s Martha Karua, who was Raila's running mate," he stated.
The lawmaker further delved into Mt Kenya's kingpin politics, stating that the region was firmly behind the DP.
Methu said that, as senators, they had resolved to rally behind the DP and wouldn't be convinced otherwise.
"As senators from the Mt. Kenya region, we have united and stood together. When challenges arise, they won’t affect the Mt. Kenya senators. We are united and firmly stand behind our leader, Rigathi Gachagua, who is our leader from Mt. Kenya. That is our stance as leaders from this region because, at this time, we have no other leader," he added.
The president appointed four ODM leaders in his new Cabinet on Wednesday, July 24.
Ali Hassan Joho was appointed Cabinet secretary for the Maritime Affairs, Blue Economy, and Mining Ministry.
The National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet secretary is now John Mbadi. James Opiyo Wandayi, a former minority leader in the National Assembly, was appointed as the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum's Cabinet secretary.
Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, a former governor of Kakamega, received the Ministry of Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development docket.
Ruto later appointed Beatrice Askul Moe as Cabinet secretary for East Africa Community and Regional Development on Tuesday, July 30.
