Gaza: Israel's military community is grieving after two soldiers were killed and several others injured in an Air Force helicopter crash in the southern Gaza Strip.

What caused the chopper crash?

The Times of Israel reported that the UH-60 Black Hawk from the 123rd Squadron flew to Rafah to rescue a combat engineer who had been seriously wounded by gunfire in the combat zone.

However, the helicopter crashed on the ground rather than landing properly. An investigation found it was not hit by enemy fire, indicating it did not fall from a great height.

The crash killed two soldiers, identified as Daniel Alloush, 37, of Tel Aviv, and Tom Ish-Shalom, 38, of Nes Harim.

An officer was critically injured, three soldiers were seriously injured, and four others sustained moderate injuries when the Israeli military helicopter crashed in Gaza.

It is still unclear whether the combat engineer who was supposed to be rescued by the ill-fated chopper was eventually saved.

Videos circulating online showed the severity of the incident, with what was left of the chopper scattered on the ground.

The cause of the plane crash is yet to be established, though the military described it as an accident.

9 killed in helicopter crash in El Salvador

In a separate incident, details emerged regarding the identities of the passengers who perished in a military helicopter crash in Pasaquina district, El Salvador.

The military released a statement indicating Police Director Mauricia Arriaza was among the nine people who died in the Sunday, September 8 crash.

Manuel Coto, a banker who had been arrested on charges of multi-million-dollar embezzlement, was also among the people killed.

Preliminary investigations show the police chief was escorting Coto when the helicopter went down in the Pasaquina district near the border with Honduras on Sunday evening.

Coto, who was accused of embezzling $35 million (KSh 3.5 billion), had been arrested earlier on Sunday in Honduras after attempting to flee to the United States.

The military reported that the crash resulted in the deaths of seven others, including three police officers, three servicemen, and a justice ministry employee.
