Uasin Gishu - Residents at Usalama village, Ainabkoi-Olare ward, Uasin Gishu county, have expressed concern following the disappearance of one of their own.

Caroline, an elderly woman, has been missing for two weeks now, leaving behind young children unattended.

According to Irine Maiyo, a well-wisher, the 42-year-old mother has a medical condition that occasionally causes her to leave home.

"She has a mental illness which makes her lose memory sometimes. She leaves home and returns after a long time. Her children, ages six to 17, have no one to watch over them except a few neighbours and well-wishers who stop to see how the family is doing and drop some food.
"She has six kids who are always left stranded when their mother leaves them alone without a trace or explanation," Maiyo said.

Caroline's poor living conditions

The family lives in a dilapidated house with old, rusty iron sheets and holes that unfit the shelter when it rains.

Maiyo said Caroline had been seen in a few villages and sometimes could be stubborn when told to return home.

"Because of her mental illness, she tends to follow what she thinks at that time and not to hear what others are telling her. It is just an unfortunate thing. My heart goes out to the kids left alone, especially without food. My heart breaks for them," she passionately said.

Eldoret daughter reunites with family

In another story, Tamar Jebet Kipkore was declared missing on Tuesday, September 3, with posters flying on social media about her disappearance.

The young lady with mental challenges was found safe and sound four days later at the heart of Eldoret city.

Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, a source revealed it was not the first time Jebet had gone missing for a while.

However, the family was over the moon after they found their kin through a church member who spotted her in town.
