Why did Mike quit his teaching job?

According to the middle-aged man who hails from Wanyororo B in Nakuru county, he quit his teaching job because he wasn't able to help his family and friends as he was not a headmaster.

"Before relocating to the US in 2016, I was a tour driver in Kenya and before that, I was a Geography and CRE teacher as I have a Bachelor's degree in Education from Kenyatta University," he said on the KDN YouTube channel," he said.
"So I left and was hired at Planet Safari Tours. I quit and started mine at Migration Safaris and later Maasai Mara Safaris. The tours and travel business is very sensitive; when there are diseases or turbulence started diseases, it gets affected," he added..

Mike first travelled to the US with his wife then later his kids followed.

Whne he arrived into the country, he didn't choose jobs, he started working in adult family homes, nursing homes, home for people with disabilities and truck driving.

How did Mike start driving a bus?

In the US, Mike drives metro buses. He says that bus driver jobs attract a lot of competition, and one really has to stand out.

"You must ensure that you are clean from alcohol and learn how a metro operates, the routes, and what to do when there is a problem. They took me to their own school and paid for me for 33 days. You can't miss any class; we started in a class of 25 people and only 10 students remain," said the former teacher.
"You will eventually go to the bus and show what you have learnt there. Once you satisfy your qualifications, you get a permanent job, and they take you back to school for some days," he added.

How much do metro bus drivers earn in USA?

Mike works for a minimum of eight hours a day. Unlike in Kenya, where one has to wait for passengers so that a bus can start moving, in the US, you continue moving even if you are alone or with one passenger.

"It takes like KSh 26,000 to operate bus for a day and it is for helping passengers. They wanted to help passengers to pay just a little bit more but there is a problem and we are keeping away from it," he shared.

According to Mike, the job pays KSh 4000 an hour and KSh 40,000 for 10 rounds.

"The benefits are really good and I manange my own job," he shared.
