Nyaribari Chache Member of Parliament Zaheer Jhanda asserts that President William Ruto is not involved in the looming impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

He stated that the discussions surrounding Gachagua's potential ousting are being driven by leaders from the Mt. Kenya region who have their reasons for wanting him to step down.

"President William ruto has absolutely nothing to do with the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Leaders from Mt Kenya and across the country have decided that they want to impeach the deputy president for their reasons. So let us separate the president from this thing. He has nothing to do with it," Jhanda urged during a political discussion.

Jhanda emphasised that the president has never addressed the issue and prefers to remain uninvolved. He further advised Gachagua to resign before facing impeachment.

"Even in our last Parliamentary Group meeting, President Ruto did not want to hear anything about Gachagua's impeachment. So let us get the president away from all these. For me, the deputy president should just resign before being impeached," he added.

This statement comes amid growing tensions within the UDA Party and conflicting views regarding Ruto's and Gachagua's political futures.

Gachagua warns Ruto against politics of betrayal

Meanwhile, the deputy president had warned his boss against participating in the impeachment plans.

He advised Ruto to keep his promise of ensuring his deputy is not humiliated, adding that if he cannot keep that promise, he will not be trusted to keep any other.

According to Gachagua, President Ruto is the main beneficiary of politics of betrayal in the Mt Kenya region, which saw him amass massive votes in the 2022 polls.
