Mumias, Kakamega: Late Sultana actress Winnie Bwire, aka Dida, has been given a befitting send-off.

How mourners said goodbye to Dida

How do you give an acting legend such as Dida an honourable send-off? During the thespian's funeral in Kholera, Mumias, mourners took over with their Luhya songs and dance.

This was after a preacher's touching message, and mourners went off with their performances.

They sang and danced to Luhya songs in a straight line, then disintegrated into groups later.

The whole field was left with mourners dancing and singing, and Dida's parents were seen smiling at some point as the mourners waved at them.

Kakamega governor Fernandes Baraza also arrived at the funeral during the song and dance, which escalated things further.

The governor then approached the family's tent, greeting the late actress's family.

What did Dida's parents say at her burial?

The mother of the late actress said that Dida was her only child, and she loved her for her resilience. She said that she taught the thespian to fight.

She also promised to take care of her daughter's foundation.

"She has this legacy that she is leaving behind that I am going to carry, and this legacy is about the foundation. We had started the first phase by paying NHIF for survivors. She was paying for the NHIF cover to give a hand back to society. I have been a caretaker and cancer survivor, and I am going to carry out that legacy," she said.

Dida's dad thanked her later daughter's employer, Lulu Hassan, for echoing their need for help using Royal Media Services.
