Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba among other MPs have pledged their support to the youth.

They confirmed their support for the upcoming protests planned by Gen Zs next week, stating that some of the issues they raised during previous demonstrations remain unaddressed.

What did the MPs say?

Speaking to the press on Friday, August 16, Wamuchomba stated that Gen Zs should know they have the support of the country's Members of Parliament.

The Githunguri MP emphasised that MPs will no longer be intimidated by accusations of funding protests, inciting Gen Zs, or other related accusations.

"Young people of Kenya should now know that they have the support of Members of Parliament like ourselves," she said.

Echoing Wamuchomba's sentiments, Babu stated that the people of Kenya are demanding the government to demonstrate the reforms being undertaken to enhance the competence of the country's leadership.

"The young people are asking that you show them the reforms that you are proposing in order to address corruption and looting of government resources by the people who are under your direct supervision," Babu said.

Babu Owino names himself chief opposition leader

Earlier, Babu expressed disappointment with some ODM leaders for accepting nominations as Cabinet secretaries.

Babu believes President William Ruto strategically appointed them from the opposition ranks to weaken governmental oversight and project a facade of stability ahead of the upcoming elections.

He lamented the escalating tensions and news doing rounds in the country, claiming he is now the de facto opposition leader due to fractures within the party and perceived divisions.

The outspoken lawmaker Babu further criticised the president for allegedly disregarding Generation Z, women, and persons with disabilities in his Cabinet nominations, citing discrimination.
