Lawrence Sifuna: Bungoma Leaders Ask Govt To Grant Departed Politician State Burial

Bungoma leaders have called on the government to give former Bungoma South MP (now Kanduyi) Lawrence Sifuna a befitting state burial as a way of recognising his role in the second liberation.

Sifuna died on Sunday, December 3, at an Eldoret hospital, where he was undergoing treatment after suffering a stroke.

Why Lawrence Sifuna deserves a state burial

Leaders from the region, led by Bumula MP Jack Wamboka, want the former lawmaker to be given a state burial to honour his contribution towards the struggle for multi-party democracy in Kenya.

"Lawrence Sifuna, like all our Liberation heroes who fought for the democracy and rights that we enjoy should be celebrated and honoured. We urge the President to give this legend of ours a befitting State Funeral in memory of his legacy as a member of the bearded sisters, selfless leadership and laying the foundation for Bumula and Kanduyi constituencies," said Wamboka.

His sentiments were echoed by former MPs John Munyasia, Wafula Wamunyinyi (Deputy Party Leader DAP-K), and a section of Azimio MCAs from Bungoma, who visited the family of the departed politician.

The leaders eulogised Sifuna as a selfless, courageous leader who laid the foundation for the current Kanduyi and Bumula constituencies and fought for Kenya's democracy through the famous bearded sister's group.

They urged the current crop of leaders to embrace his legacy by standing with the electorate.

The leaders shared in grief and promised to walk with the family to give the deceased a befitting send-off.

Sifuna is survived with 3 widows Mepher, Rufina and Monica.

He is the uncle of Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna.

As reported earlier, the Nairobi senator said the former MP suffered a stroke and was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

"Hon. Lawrence Sifuna, former MP Kanduyi and Bumula Constituencies, left us last night whilst receiving treatment at an Eldoret Hospital following a stroke he suffered a few days ago. As a Family we are grateful for all the messages of love that we continue to receive. May God Bless you all," Sifuna said.
