Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) outside Nairobi for the second time.
The first time such a big announcement was made outside Nairobi was in 2016, when former Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i announced national examination results at Shimo La Tewa High School.
The Monday, January 8, announcement meant that, like Matiang'i, Machogu had made it possible for national examination results to be declared outside Nairobi, as has been the norm for decades across different regimes.

Moi Girls High School Eldoret principal Juliana Kirui told journalists that she was equally surprised that the examination results would be released at the national institution of secondary education.
She said that she only knew about it a few hours before the announcement, saying that all the while, the school had prepared for a meeting with the Ministry of Education officials.
"I did not know that the results would be announced here. Until yesterday, we did not know that national examination results would be announced here. We were just told that there would be an important meeting," she responded to a reporter who probed her about the development.
She said that the surprise was a good one and thanked the government for giving the institution such a rare opportunity.
Kirui also expressed optimism that the school's candidates would perform excellently in the examinations owing to good preparations and God's blessings and guidance.
"On behalf of the school, we are happy that this happened in our school, and we hope our students did well because we prepared them well, and God is on our side. I am proud of our teachers for ensuring everything works smoothly, from disciplining to teaching students," Kirui said.
TUKO.co.ke understands that Ministry of Education officials and other education stakeholders briefed President William Ruto about the results before publicly announcing them at Moi Girls High School.
The government also announced means by which candidates can access their results online and away from the traditional SMS codes.
