Every morning, Sheila Yegon wakes up, quite aware of the daunting task ahead of her, but still walks to the quarry site to crush stones as it puts food on her table.
In an interview with TUKO. co.ke, Cheruiyot, from Chepkorgong village, Chepalungu in Bomet county, revealed her mum died when she was a little child, which made her drop out of school in Class One.
"My dad didn't take me to school after her death," she said.

The 24-year-old has grown up with a lot of struggles, and after some time, she got married to her husband John Yegon.
Things were finally looking up, but unfortunately, Yegon became mentally challenged, which caused many problems between them.
"I became the provider, and that is why I ended up at the quarry. Each container pays me KSh 5," she said.
"I also fell out with my parents -in-law and now I am homeless," she said.
Chelangat is now asking for help from well-wishers. She is asking if anyone can give her a job and a place to stay.
"This job is very difficult and I am not getting much from it," she lamented.

In February 2023, an elderly woman who works in a quarry to fend for herself and her mentally challenged son received foodstuff.
Saladha Dakane said she and her boy Abdi had not eaten for three days and were delighted with the gifts.
The 67-year-old woman requested a decent house, recalling her boy was almost eaten by hyenas one night.
