Tanzanians will have to dig deeper into their pockets to access fuel after the country's energy regulator increased petrol and diesel prices.
In the latest review, the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) announced an increment of 17% for fuel.
Following the increment, the cost of a litre of petrol was increased to TSh 3,199 (KSh 186.46), up from TSh 2,736 (KSh 159).
On the other hand, The East African reported diesel's cost rose from TSh 2,544 (KSh 148) to TSh 2,935 (KSh 171) a litre, while Kerosene's price was reduced slightly from TSh2,829 (KSh 164.89) to TSh 2,668 (KSh 155) a litre.

EWURA director James Mwainyekuledue cited challenges in the availability of US dollars and changes in the fuel levy.
Mwainyekuledue also noted the prices of petroleum globally had risen in the last few weeks.
"Changes in prices of petroleum products in August 2023 are mainly due to challenges in the availability of US Dollars and changes in the fuel levy, prices of petroleum products in the world market, and premiums in the importation of petroleum products," EWURA stated as reported by The Citizen.
On Friday, July 14, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) slightly reduced petrol and diesel prices by KSh 0.85 and KSh 3.96 per litre, respectively.
Petrol and kerosene retail at KSh 195.53 and KSh 173.44 after the Value Added Tax (VAT) on fuel was doubled.
However, the regulator maintained the cost of automotive diesel at KSh 179.67 per litre in Nairobi.
Despite Rwanda being a landlocked country importing fuel through the port of Mombasa, fuel in Kigali is cheaper than in Nairobi.
In June, the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) announced a reduction in pump prices, citing a drop in global crude oil costs.
“Fuel pump prices are revised downwards based on the adjustments at the international market of petroleum products," RURA tweeted.
