When Ochieng was invited to make his speech, a man emerged from the crowd and roughed him up before snatching a microphone from his hands.

This caused a commotion that degenerated into a fight between supporters of the MDG and the ODM party.

In a video seen by TUKO.co.ke, the Ugenya legislator's bodyguards fired several bullets in the air to scare away the crowd.

Ochieng, who is among the MPs from the region who dumped Azimio to support the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, fled the scene, and the burial ceremony went on under heavy police guard.

ODM leader and Siaya governor James Orengo remained seated as the chaos disrupted the funeral

How hostile crowd heckled Bondo MP

Elsewhere, Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda had a rough time addressing a hostile crowd in his constituency.

Ochanda has been considered a rebel in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party after pledging to work with President William Ruto.

During an interaction with residents after the launch of the construction and upgrading to bitumen of the Bondo-Liunda Road, the crowd refused to be addressed by the MP.

The head of state invited Ochanda, but the crowd could hear nothing as they kept shouting him down.

The MP's appeals to tone down and allow him to deliver his speech fell on deaf ears as they kept shouting Siaya governor James Orengo's name.

"You are wasting our time. We don't have time. Please conduct yourselves properly," he pleaded with the crowd.

Ruto took the microphone from the lawmaker, who reluctantly walked back to stand beside other leaders as whistles, screaming, and ululation filled the air.
