A young boy will live the rest of his life without the guidance, love and protection of a father after his dad passed away.

Baraka Nzomo lost his father following a fatal accident that happened over the weekend at Kisima, Mbooni, Makueni county.

The lad was lucky to survive the road accident that took the lives of at least 10 people, with another 10 left severely injured.

Nzomo said he would have been among the dead had it not been for his fatherly instincts to protect him.

Dangers and consequences of overspeeding

"The driver was overspeeding despite passengers warning him against it. They were saying, 'Wewe dere, wacha kuendesha gari mbio' but the warning fell on deaf ears. We hit a rock not long before, and the vehicle rolled down a hill. My dad held me tight, and that is why I survived the accident. I was not badly injured," he narrated.

Nzomo said his elder brother was also in the vehicle but could not be traced when his aunt and uncle came for them.

The 10-year-old and his dad were rushed to the hospital, but after an x-ray was done, the boy was transferred to Machakos Level 5 Hospital.
