Kenyan world record holder Faith Kipyegon has dedicated her second Budapest gold in the 2023 World Athletics Championships to her supportive husband.

Kipyegon put up quite the performance during the championships in Hungary after bagging a second gold in the competition; she won the women's 5000m final days after her 1500m win.

Speaking after the impeccable performance in Budapest, Kipyegon gave a special shoutout to her husband and dedicated the win to him.

“I dedicate this gold medal to my husband; he has been supportive towards this success and being an amazing husband,” Faith said, as quoted by Capital FM.

The Kenyan champion clocked 14:53.88 to become the first woman to win the 1500m and 5000m double. The 29-year-old now has Kenya's two gold medals at the event.

On Sunday, August 27, Kipyegon took to social media to also thank her daughter for the inspiration and support she gave her.

"This has been an amazing year for me. Making history yesterday, winning two gold medals in a championship is what I was dreaming for this season. My dream just came true, it is amazing. I have been consistent, and focused on the finish line and on writing history.
I will continue to push myself in the future. My daughter gives me amazing support; she always tells me I can do it. Lastly, I want to thank my amazing team, my coach, my management and all amazing fans!" she wrote on Facebook page.

Faith Kipyegon's win

Kipyegon fended off long-time rival Sifan Hassan to win her second gold medal at the event.

Her long-time adversary, Sifan Hassan, finished second after 14 minutes and 54.11 seconds. Hassan took bronze in the 1500m.

Kipyegon is having a historic season. She now has two gold medals and three world records this year alone, a truly unprecedented achievement.

The first world record to fall was the 1,500m record on June 2, where she became the first woman to break the 3:50.00 barrier in the distance, clocking 3:49.11.
