At its nerve centre is a device identified as an Orb which enables one to scan their eyeballs to prove their humanness.

Kenyans have been captured turning up in their numbers to scan their irises perhaps to acquire the tokens.

The ODPC now urges the citizenry to familiarise itself with how the platform works, and how the data they give about themselves will be used, before going ahead to "prove themselves as humans."

"As the ODPC conducts its assessment of WorldCoin's practices to ensure compliance with the law, Kenyans are urged to ensure that they receive proper information before disclosing any personal or sensitive data. Individuals are advised to thoroughly inquire about how their data will be used," it said.

On suspicion that Worldcoin could be processing sensitive personal data, the agency stressed the need to demonstrate to the audience proper safeguards as per the laws on data protection.

The ODPC suggested that it would step in to determine whether the data extracted from Kenyans using Worldcoin is processed in line with the law in a bid to enhance data privacy and security.

Its administrators could suffer legal consequences if it is established that people's personal data are abused.

"It is the responsibility of data controllers to ensure that personal data is processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act. Failure to do so not only puts individuals' privacy at risk but also exposes an organization to legal and reputational consequences," said Immaculate Kassait, a data commissioner.
