In yet another act of compassion, troops from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) in the Democratic Republic of Congo have successfully helped an expectant woman deliver.

The officers who are serving under the East African Community Regional Force (EACRF) were conducting a patrol in Kibumba, located in Nyiragongo Territory, when the incident occurred.

Woman went into labour

Given that most local hospital facilities within the North Kivu Province have been closed for a while, the woman's hope lay in the soldiers.

According to an official statement, the KDF medical team quickly sprung into action and skilfully managed to facilitate a successful delivery.

Following the successful birth, both the mother and her newborn were stabilised by the medical team and transferred to the Kinyaruchinya Health Centre in Goma for further care and treatment.

"The joint cooperation between the Democratic Republic of Congo Government, EACRF and other stakeholders to bring peace in North Kivu will enable the reopening of social and public amenities such as hospitals and schools among others," read part of the statement.

KDF troops delivered another woman in May

In May this year, another contingent of KDF soldiers were also called upon to assist an expectant woman deliver in DRC.

While conducting a patrol in Kibumba, the soldiers demonstrated their compassion when they were approached by a distressed woman in need of help.

The troops transported the woman to the Kinyaruchinya Health Centre where she had a successful delivery, after which they donated food supplies for the new mother and her family.

Amid the tense atmosphere, the woman courageously gave birth to a healthy baby, providing a glimmer of hope and joy in the midst of challenging circumstances.

The move was applauded by social media users who showered accolades on the soldiers for going out of their way to extend a helping hand.
