Machakos: Police Officers On Patrol Clash With Robbers Near Bank, Rescue Woman
  • Three suspected thieves attacked police officers on a night patrol after they stopped them from robbing a woman in Mlolongo
  • The three were later arrested after a failed escape attempt and were caught with a panga, a cutting saw, and stickers to interchange car number plates
  • The suspects now await arraignment and will be charged with possession of stolen items, resisting arrest, and robbery with violence

Three police officers in Machakos county were injured after an encounter with robbers on Thursday, May 23, at night.

According to a police report, the two constable officers were on a patrol mission around Cooperative Bank in Mlongongo when they encountered the robbers.

According to Citizen Digital, the three men were stealing from a woman rescued by two officers, Okari and Kyalo.

"Police Constable Okari suffered a swollen right eye, a cut on the side of the head, and a dislocated right hand. Police Constable Kyalo suffered a swollen right leg near the knee. Police Constable Ndung’u has chest pains," read the police statement.

Police identify the robbers

After a failed attempt, the three men tried to escape and an altercation happened, injuring the two constables.

The three were arrested after being overwhelmed by the police and taken to custody, awaiting arraignment.

The three men were identified as John Maina, 27, Alex Mutinda Mutuku, 30, and Julius Otieno Okoth, 26.

They were found with digit and letter stickers to change their number plate, a bunch of assorted keys, ten pieces of master keys with a grinding file to open any lock, eight phones of assorted models, three crowbars, one hook, and a panga.

According to the police report, the car used by the three had its number plate changed with stickers from KDH 630Y to KDA 730F.

The three men will be prosecuted and charged under three accounts including robbery with violence, possession of stolen items and resisting arrest.

Police attacked in Bungoma

Early this week, two police officers were attacked in Bungoma while on a private assignment to investigate illicit brew activities in Musole village.

The two officers met a hostile crowd that attacked them, sustaining head injuries and cuts from the attack.

The Bungoma County investigation team took to the matter and called for police vigilance while undertaking a private assignment.
