Mercy Tarus, the brave graduate from Uasin Gishu, has been trending on social media since she called out former governor Jackson Mandago for allegedly swindling them of their hard-earned money meant for an overseas scholarship programme.
Mercy Tarus led demonstrations in Eldoret town on Wednesday, August 9, demanding a refund of money allegedly lost in the Uasin Gishu Scholarship scandal.
Tarus said they are tired of hearing stories from the county leaders, calling on President William Ruto to intervene.

However, Narok senator Ledama Olekina tried to rescue her by offering her a job and posted the offer on his Twitter handle. But it did not go as he would have wished.
He wrote:
"Mercy Tarus, I would like you to work for me, speak your heart, the future belongs to candid youth! Let's talk."
Mercy responded to his tweet by turning down the job and asking him to talk to his fellow senators to audit the leaders in her county.
This is what she responded:
"Mr. Ledama, before we can further this conversation, Talk to your fellow senators to bring the Uasin Gishu County Government to book and compel them to refund rightfully hard-earned money to the Citizens of Kenya. Maybe then, we can talk. Otherwise, I have nothing more to say."
However, her response elicited mixed reactions from social media users who accused her of being arrogant, while others commended her for fighting for her rights
Here are some of the comments from netizens on her post:

Elsewhere, youthful politician Alinur Mohamed has been on the receiving end after blasting Mercy's speech to Uasin Gishu leaders.
According to Alinur, Mercy was out of line to berate the leaders over the scholarship scam publicly.
“I am disappointed with Mercy Tarus. I support her message but disagree with how she shared it. She disrespected leaders from Uasin Gishu, like Senator Jackson Mandago and other people's parents, by shouting at and lecturing them. We don't do that here. She should apologise,” said Alinur.
The post attracted a flurry of comments as many netizens bashed him, saying he was only seeking attention.
