Nairobi: 19-Year-Old Plumber Dies From Electric Shock While Drilling Holes In Building For Plumbing

• Nineteen-year-old Joash Kiprotich was electrocuted while drilling holes for plumbing at a construction site in Valley Arcade area
• The young man's body was found at the scene moments after he had been killed and taken to the mortuary
• Workers at the site said he had been assigned to drill the holes when he came in contact with a naked live wire that struck him dead

Nairobi - A young plumber has met his death while working at a construction site in Nairobi's Valley Arcade area.

When tragedy struck, 19-year-old Joash Kiprotich was electrocuted while drilling holes for plumbing in a building.

The police reported that his body was recovered moments after his electrocution on Wednesday, August 16.

Workers at the site said Kiprotich had been assigned to drill the holes when he accidentally touched a naked live wire, killing him.

His body was taken to the mortuary as the police begin an inquest into his untimely death.

Man killed while trimming trees

In a similar incident reported by TUKO.co.ke, a 60-year-old Peterson Muriuki Kamau was electrocuted while trimming trees on Thursday, January 12, evening.

Kamau had built a reputation as an expert when it comes to trimming trees and live hedges and was well-known in the village for his mastery.

Citizen Digital reported that his colleague Peter Gicheru said Kamau had been contracted to trim tree branches at a nearby homestead when the incident happened.

Gicheru regretted that he was helpless in saving his friend as he watched him die after being electrocuted.

"I watched helplessly as he got electrocuted while trimming the trees, there was nothing I could do to help," Gicheru said.

Kameji Secondary School incident

Cases of electrocution have been on the rise in the country, with the case in Nairobi adding to the growing list.

Earlier, a man was electrocuted after illegally trying to reconnect electricity to Kameji Secondary School located in Migori county.

The institution's principal was said to have sought the services of the deceased after Kenya Power disconnected power to the school over a huge unpaid electricity bill.

According to the family's 'spokesman' Charles Odhiambo, their kin did not have papers or anything to show that he had technical know-how in handling electricity, faulting the principal for his untimely death.
