A content creator has claimed that the practice of gifting TikTokers during live sessions was sinister.

How Kenyan TikTokers launder money

According to @njambifever, the practice is used to launder money.

“There is wash wash on TikTok. We see people giving gifts during live sessions, but specific accounts are involved,” she said.

The TikToker claimed that some accounts have few followers but make big money.

“You see, someone has few followers, but they get more money than the amount bigwigs get. You see people getting millions clean. People are laundering money,” she said.

Njambi claimed that the money launderers approach TikTok users and offer to send them money at a fee.

“TikTok usually takes half the value of the gifts, and the other parties split the remaining money.”

She said she would willingly participate in the practice if someone approached her. Njambi further cautioned content creators not to feel pressured when their peers seemingly live lavishly.

“You think someone is lucky, but luck has nothing to do with it. That is why you are told in content creation that you will die if you try competing with people.”

Her sentiments elicited mixed reactions, with some casting doubts on her argument.
