Malindi - Digital strategist and political blogger Pauline Njoroge has accused detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of stealing from her.

Njoroge was arrested on Saturday, July 22, amid the national government's crackdown on opposition leaders and their allies.

The arrests were in response to a three-day anti-government protest called by Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga.

Njoroge was nabbed alongside her close friend Jane Nduta and taxi driver Emanze Jilani along Watamu-Jakaranda road.

How much did Pauline Njoroge lose

During the mention of her case on Monday, August 14, to confirm if the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had made a decision to charge or to close the miscellaneous file and release her laptop and iPhone, she claimed to be missing her money.

Njoroge's lawyers told the Malindi Chief Magistrates Court that KSh 302,842 was illegally withdrawn from her bank account.

She explained that the DCI officers were the only third party that had access to her accounts before the theft.

"The defense informed the court to put on record that on 03/08/2023 at 19:05:03 hrs there was theft of Kshs. 302,842.00 from VISA bank account of Pauline Njoroge Njoki.
Consequently the defense also applied that investigation be done by DCI alongside the current investigation and a report be filed in court on the grounds that; before the theft, the DCI officers were the only third parties who had actual possession and access to the said Bank Cards before the theft," read the court papers.

The prosecuting counsel said they would consult with the investigating officer before making an informed decision on both orders.

Njoroge's case will be mentioned on Friday, August 18, to confirm the release of her device and get the DPP's response on the missing cash.

Njoroge remains defiant

Following her much-publicised arrest, vowed to continue criticising the Kenya Kwanza government.

In a statement on Thursday, July 27, Njoroge vowed that she will not be silenced by President William Ruto's administration.

According to the digital strategist, her arrest only strengthened her resolve, and from now on, she will not sit and watch things go wrong in the country.

Njoroge, who is affiliated with the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party, called on patriotic Kenyans to speak out against alleged attempts by Ruto's administration to recreate what she termed as the country's dark past.
