Nairobi - After calling off the weekly anti-government protests, ODM leader Raila Odinga has visited his supporters who were injured during the demonstrations.

On Tuesday, July 26, Raila visited Mama Lucy Hospital, where he checked on patients nursing gunshot wounds as a result of the protests.

On arrival at the facility, the former prime minister was taken to various wards, interacting with the patients in an attempt to find out how they were responding to the treatment.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader was accompanied by other opposition leaders, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leaders later went to Kenyatta Hospital to visit victims of alleged police brutality.

Kisii residents honour protest victims

Meanwhile, residents of Kisii county were among Kenyans who thronged the streets to honour compatriots killed and injured during the nationwide maandamano declared by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader.

The residents carried candles and sang religious songs as they matched to the Central Business District (CBD), where they camped for a moment of silence and spoke against the killing of protesters by police officers.

"Yesu Oh Yesu mapenzi yako yatimizwe" (Jesus, may your will be done) as they convened for the daytime mourning match.

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leaders on Monday, July 24, called off protests scheduled for Wednesday, July 26, and substituted the event with vigils and prayer sessions for the deceased and injured.

"We wish to appeal that the exercise kicks off at 6am with the lighting of candles and laying of flowers - any kind of flowers - at convenient, convergence points including hospitals, parks, bus stages, churches, markets, shopping centers, social halls, county assemblies and county headquarters," the coalition said.
