Real Mathe Wa Ngara Moves To Court To Stop Her Impending Arrest: "I've Never Committed A Crime"

• Through her advocate Shanice Maingi, Kigunzu claimed police were out to ensure she does not continue doing business in Kenya
• Police launched a nationwide manhunt for her after KSh 13 million and illegal drugs were confiscated from her house

Nairobi - Businesswoman Nancy Kigunzu alias Mathe wa Ngara has moved to court to block her impending arrest.

In a case filed in court by her advocate Shanice Maingi, Kigunzu described herself as a law-abiding Kenyan with a legitimate source of income and asked for protection from arrest, Citizen TV reported.

How Nancy Kigunzu wants her cases handled

The businesswoman said she has never committed any crime in Kenya and has never been summoned by police officers or charged with any crime.

Kigunzu claimed her impending arrest over the KSh 13.4 million and illegal substances confiscated by police was meant to block her from running her legitimate business.

"The applicant is of the firm belief that the timing of the arrest is designed to intimidate and ensure that she does not continue running her business here in Kenya," read court papers.

She accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome of being used to violate constitutional rights through harassment and intimidation.

"The powers of arrest by the 1st (DCI) and 2nd (IG Koome) respondents are being abused and misused to harass, intimidate and oppress the applicant," she said.

She asked the court to grant her anticipatory bail or bond, arguing she was willing to avail herself before a just and fair legal system in which her fundamental rights are respected.

Family of Teresia Wanjiru demands her release

Meanwhile, more details emerged about the woman arrested in Ngara in connection with selling marijuana in Kariua slums.

Her daughter Sheila Waithera defended her mother, Teresia Wanjiru, saying police officers planted the illegal substance and money on her mum.

Waithera disclosed that officers briefly talked with her mother about what she does and where she lives, only for them to arrest her as they left the informal settlement.

"Are you sure this store is not yours? She told them that I showed you my place and my hotel business. They insisted, carried their luggage, and when they passed through Mum's business, they went with her," Waithera said.

The daughter also said there was a bad intention in her mother's arrest because they do not have as much money as quoted by the police.

"If they are saying we have all that money, why I'm I not in school?" Waithera posed.

Grace Mwihaki, mother to Teresia Wanjiru and grandmother to Waithera, said there was no way they could have that much money and still live in abject poverty.
