Nairobi - The National Dialogue Committee has invited Kenyans to give views on the five talking points guiding the bipartisan talks between Kenya Kwanza Alliance and the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party.

How Kenyans can give their views on Ruto-Raila talks

On Friday, September 1, the committee, co-chaired by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah, said the move was meant to foster meaningful dialogue.

"Embracing the principles of public participation, members of the public have been invited to submit their memoranda. This inclusive approach aims to foster meaningful dialogue," Ichung'wah said.

Kenyans with any option or contribution that might help the committee are required to write an email to the National Dialogue Committee through nationaldialoguecommittee@parliament.go.ke or written memoranda addressed to the Clerk of the National Assembly or Clerk of the Senate through P.O Box 41842-00100 Nairobi.

Alternatively, Kenyans can also submit oral representations at the Public Hearings to be held on a date commissioned by the bipartisan committee.

The committee said Kenyans are required to make their submission on or before September 8, 2023.

Kalonzo: Which agenda will come first

Meanwhile, during today's sitting, the committee agreed on the priority of the five discussion agendas.

Kalonzo said the team agreed to begin with the agenda regarding electoral justice and related matters, where they will deliberate on the reconstitution of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

"The NADCO this afternoon agreed on the order of priority that the issues tabled would be discussed: Electoral justice and related matters; Outstanding Constitutional matters; Fidelity to Political Parties / Coalitions and law on multiparty democracy; Entrenching funds into the Constitution; and Establishment and Entrenchment of State Offices," Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo dismisses Gachagua's remarks in Bomas talks

In another development, the dialogue committee dismissed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua's disparaging remarks against the talks at Bomas.

During the talks on Friday, August 25, Kalonzo and UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire asked Kenyans to ignore the sentiments of the DP.

They instead asked Kenyans to focus on the milestones the committee had made, including the adoption of a legal by the National Assembly.

Kalonzo said the team was operating like nothing had been happening outside the talks.

"We are operating as if nothing has happened out there. This is an important engagement of national importance," he said.

On her part, the Embu governor asked Kenyans not to take some of the anti-talk rhetorics seriously.

She explained that the ruling Kenya Kwanza Alliance was behind the talks and supported the negotiations led by Majority leader Kimani Ichung'wah at Bomas.

"We as a coalition support the negotiations, don't take seriously what you hear out there,"Mbarire noted.
