It is exactly 25 years since the US embassies in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and Nairobi Kenya were simultaneously bombed by terrorists on August 7, 1998.

During the unfortunate incidents, at least 224 people died and 4,500 others wounded in the explosions that happened few minutes apart.
On Saturday, August 5, members of the Senate Ad hoc Committee on the Compensation of the Kenyan Victims in the 1998 Bombing of the US Embassy in Nairobi, joined families of the casualties to commemorate 25 years of the terror attack.

The Thanksgiving and Prayer Ceremony to mark a quarter a decade since the attack took place at Peace Memorial Park bomb blast area.
Speaking to the families, Machakos Senator Dan Maanzo who is the Ad hoc committee's chairman, said that they are determined to have the US government compensate the families of the victims.
He also said they will be engaging the Kenyan government to ensure that the survivors of the blast leave a better life in spite of the challenges and trauma they suffered in the explosion.
Jobs for US embassy bombing victims
"I call on the Kenyan government to also look at the plight of the survivors by offering them employment opportunities and subsidised medical care," the senator stated.
The US Embassy in Nairobi also honoured the deceased who were robbed of their families with a deep message.
"On August 7, 1998, terrorists attacked U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania killing hundreds of innocent people. Loved ones were taken from us far before their time and today, on this 25th anniversary, we remember the lives lost, honour their legacy, and continue to forge stronger partnerships between Kenyans and Americans," read a Tweet by the embassy.
Kenyans online called on the US Embassy to increase the Diversity Visas for Kenyans as part of the compensation package for compatriots killed.
"Sad day indeed...as well, DV 2023 winners are humbly requesting for more interviews," said Elvis Mudanya.
Just Jerry echoed Mudanya's sentiments and appealed to the US government to increase Diversity Visas 2023 for Kenyans.

Activist Boniface Mwangi had recently called on the US Embassy to consider compensating 80% of visa application fees which he said were exorbitant as reported by Citizen.
