Nairobi Woman Narrates Inspiring Journey Of Breaking Barriers From Caregiver To Tech CEO

June Katei Reeves, a Kenyan entrepreneur, has shared her remarkable story of starting from humble beginnings to founding a successful software testing company.
In a post on Facebook, the young mother disclosed that her first job after finishing high school in 2006 was not glamorous.
June cleaned bedridden patients
June revealed that she worked alongside her mother, a nurse who took on side jobs in people's homes for bedridden patients.

Her role involved cleaning patients' poop, a task she initially found challenging but held on to help support her family.
"I protested a bit (typical teenager) when I found out what the job entailed, but I persevered when my mom reminded me that I wanted a job," she started.
She worked in the job for a while, using the money she earned to buy food at home and pay for her university education.
Opened software company after 17 years
In October 2023, 17 years later, June felt prompted to open a software testing company during a midnight prayer session called the Hallelujah Challenge.
Despite having 11 years of experience in software testing, she had previously let fear hold her back from starting her own business.
June explains that she procrastinated on the dream because she doubted her worth and skills, questioning who would require her services.
"Over the years, I would mention it to friends and colleagues, and they would encourage me, but I would always shut down that thought," she continued.
June obtained courage from the Bible
However, inspired by the book of Joshua in the Bible, which commands courage, June decided to take the leap of faith and pursue her dream.
The entrepreneur told TUKO.co.ke that she is the only permanent employee since her business is still young.
"I contract on a need basis as business comes in, but so far it is paying my bills and I have no qualms about it," she noted.
Since founding Essai International, June has faced numerous challenges, learning new things and occasionally feeling overwhelmed.
She remains grateful that her company will help people find employment and provide for themselves and their families.
June encouraged others to stop hesitating and be courageous in pursuing their dreams, adding that anything is possible with determination and belief in oneself.
June's courageous battle with acne
In an earlier story, June disclosed that most people who have encountered her often conclude she is into heavy makeup for no reason.
What they do not know is that she has struggled with genetic acne since she was a teenager, which she has to manage with contraceptives.
The condition has seen her face judgement from the community, a struggle that often affected her self-esteem, but she learned how to hold her head high.
