Gov't To Compensate Farmers Who Were Sold Fake Fertiliser: "Present National IDs"

Nairobi: The National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) is compensating farmers who were supplied with fake fertilisers.

This followed a directive from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development under Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.

NCPB notified farmers of the plan via a communique shared on Wednesday, April 24.

The compensation is only tailored for farmers who bought the KEL fertiliser brand.

"The National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) has begun to compensate farmers who bought substandard fertilizer. This follows a directive from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MOALD) that all farmers who bought KEL fertilizers be compensated," said the agency.

To be compensated, a farmer must lodge formal complaints by filling out a Claim Declaration Form available at the NCPB depots or selling centres from which they acquired the inputs.

Besides filling out the forms, the farmers were asked to present their original national ID cards and evidence of purchase including the exhibits where applicable.

Farmers confirmed to have used the fertiliser obtained from the NCPB depots would compensated with a top-dressing fertilizer.

For those yet to use the fertiliser, the government said they would have to return the product to NCPB stores and be issued with an equivalent amount of planting fertilizer.
