Isinya Sub-County Police Command Patrick Manyasi confirmed the incident, saying it was linked to marital differences the man had with his wife, with whom he had separated recently.
The police boss termed the incident unfortunate, arguing couples should seek counselling when faced with marital issues.
"It's unfortunate we have lost two lives. Let couples seek help when they face marital problems," Manyasi said.
According to the police report, the girl had visited her father at Blessed Apartment in Kitengela moments before neighbours heard commotion.
Neighbours heard distress calls from the girl but could not save her on time as the door was locked from inside.
"A shriek came from the house, and then it died away. There was a commotion that did not last very long. It's unfortunate we could not save the girl," a neighbour said.
When police arrived, they found the two bodies were found lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom.
"The deceased, aged 16, has severe stab wounds on her back abdomen, left breast, and several head injuries suspected to have been caused by a blunt object...visible defensive marks on the left arms. The 59-year man had stab wounds in his lower abdomen," the police report read.
Police officers recovered two sharp knives, believed to be the murder weapons and a piece of paper bearing a phone number.
The bodies were moved to Shalom Hospital Mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
