The papers also reported on the Ministry of Education's decision to not extend the second term school calendar as earlier planned.

The paper reported that sharp political division rocked the select committee handling the impeachment motion against Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, leading to the dropping of two key witnesses, a move that could bring huge relief to the embattled CS.

A two-hour meeting called by the committee on Thursday night at around 8pm to decide on whether to call Crops Development Principal Secretary Paul Rono and KEL Chemicals Chief Operating Officer Devesh Patel to give evidence ended with more divisions along political lines.

The committee’s meeting in the boardroom on the first floor of County Hall ended at 10pm with no agreement, forcing a vote that saw the majority carry the day.

Although the chairperson said a detailed report would be given on why they voted to lock out the two key witnesses, sources within the committee told of pushy engagements that marred the meeting, necessitating the vote.

During the meeting, while some MPs talked of the strict timelines that they have to deliver the report, others expressed fear the PS and Patel would have strengthened the case against the CS.

Some were torn, unsure whether the two witnesses were coming to testify against or for the motion.

A section of the committee also argued that since Rono’s name came up prominently during the two-day hearings, it was only fair to call him to defend himself and give vital information that would have helped the committee to make its decision.

Wamboka told the committee that Kenyans are watching them to see the final decision they will make, saying the moral grounds for the removal of Linturi had been set.

If the committee finds the three allegations facing Linturi unsubstantiated, no further proceedings shall be taken but if the allegations are substantiated by the committee, the CS will be given an opportunity to defend himself against the charges and the House will vote to either approve or reject the resolution. ifa

The Swahili paper reported that the fourth wife of the late Jackson Kibor, Eunitah Kibor, 45, dismissed claims that she married the deceased because of his wealth.

The woman, who married the deceased in 2002, said she had genuine love for Kibor.

Eunitah said she still loves the late Kibor and has no plans to marry again.

Speaking to publication in Eldoret, she refuted claims that her intention to marry the deceased was to amass wealth.

"Kibor loved me very much and he was the one pursuing me. Besides, I didn't come here because of wealth," said Eunitah.

She also denied claims that she was the one who made Kibor go to court to divorce his other wives.

"I married Kibor in 2002. We were blessed with five children, and until his death, we truly loved each other. There is no other man in the world who could give me the love I received from Kibor," said Eunitah.

After the death of Kibor in 2022, Eunitah found herself in a battle with the deceased's children over the distribution of assets.

The publication reported four family members, including a child, tragically lost their lives after the vehicle they were traveling in was hit from the rear by a lorry at Tenwek bridge in Bomet county, causing it to plunge into River Nyangores.

The lorry, traveling in the same direction as the car, pushed it into the river before being swept away by the swollen waters.

Despite efforts by residents to halt its drift downstream, they were unable to prevent the vehicle from sinking into the river.

Divers from Bomet County Disaster Management department later retrieved the vehicle from the river, discovering three bodies entangled in the wreckage.

Unfortunately, the body of a child, also part of the group, remains missing.

Bomet Central Sub-County police commandant, Musa Omar Imamai, mentioned that they suspect the child was swept downstream, and divers have been deployed to search for the body.

Eyewitnesses reported that the lorry driver lost control of the vehicle due to brake failure as it approached the bridge.

Several vehicles and motorcycle riders crossing the bridge narrowly escaped harm, with one vehicle pushed close to the river but managing to avoid falling in.
