A Facebook post detailing the distress of unknowingly sipping hot porridge has sparked a hilarious reaction among Kenyans.

Why is hot porridge deadly?

Kickstarted by Collins Rodesh, Kenyans narrated how they agonised over how to cool the porridge after filling their whole mouth with it.

Many disclosed how they shed instant tears after it scalded their tongue and the soft inner lining of their mouth.

Some explained that they felt an excruciating sensation of squeezing or burning and could not spit it out or swallow.

Others said it is embarrassing to be in such a situation, especially if it occurs in a public area such as a restaurant.

"Have you ever taken a huge sip of porridge not knowing it is hot? Funny thing, the brain cells don't recognise spitting it out," his post read.

“That is the day I knew I could speak in tongues very fluently with my eyes wide open as tears flowed down my cheeks.”

Tatiana Wanja, a medic, told TUKO.co.ke that hot porridge can be deadly because of two aspects.

"First is its latent heat, and secondly, viscosity. It can cause cancer by injuring the oesophagus."

Porridge is popular in Kenya.

However, a blend as Uji Power is gaining mainstream popularity nationwide for its alleged potency.

Made of arrowroots, groundnuts, milk, sweet potatoes, cassava, and honey, among other things, Uji Power is raking in money for business owners such as Alice Kamau.

As reported by TUKO.co.ke in January 2024, Kamau makes at least KSh 100,000 monthly selling Uji Power in Kimbo, Ruiru.

Kamau said she pumped KSh 50,000 into the lucrative business after discovering the gap in the market.
