United Kingdom's King Charles III has sent a condolence message to Kenyans affected by floods.

What did King Charles III say about floods?

In a statement dated Tuesday, May 7, King Charles III said he and his spouse were only recently made aware of the significant impact of the floods on the country.

"We can only begin to imagine the anguish of those who have lost loved ones and seen their livelihoods devastated. Our thoughts are also with those emergency workers and others working long hours to support those who have been so dreadfully affected," he said.

He emphasised the need to remain united and act together to mitigate and adapt to the consequences of climate change.

The King further highlighted how he fondly remembers the grand welcome he received when he visited Kenya in 2023.

He added that he values the friendship between the United Kingdom and Kenya thus sending his deepest sympathy and affection to the people of Kenya.

"As discussed during our visit to Kenya last year, the challenge of climate change and biodiversity loss falls to all of us to address: at stake is our very quality of life and survival as a world," the statement read in part.

When did King Charles come to Kenya

King Charles and his wife Camilla visited Kenya on October 31, 2023.

The visit marked his first visit to a Commonwealth country as Britain’s monarch.

Interestingly, Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne during a visit to Kenya's Treetops Hotel in Aberdare National Park, Nyeri county.

At the time, Elizabeth, then a princess, was embarking on her inaugural tour of Kenya.

Pope Francis prays for Kenya flood victims

Elsewhere, on May 1 Pope Francis sent his message of condolences for the victims of floods in Kenya.

According to a Vatican News report, the pope urged an audience in the Vatican to join him in prayer for those impacted by the floods, extending the invitation to Christians globally.
