The late Maureen Wangui and her five-year-old daughter have been buried at Kabiro-ini village in Gichugu, Kirinyaga county.

Kirinyaga residents pained by the deaths

The 29-year-old Wangui jumped in River Nyamindi with the child strapped to her back just after visiting her grandparents's place.

Police officers and the locals worked together to retrieve the bodies from the river. At the time, the woman's uncle, Stephen Maembe, said the motives for her actions remained unknown, adding that a watchman at a coffee factory witnessed the incident and raised an alarm, but it was too late.

"She was seen by a Kainamoi coffee factory watchman who raised the alarm before we arrived here and informed the authorities. We are grieving, and we are appealing to the government to help us recover the bodies of our loved ones," Maembe said at the time.

The burial of the two was well-attended by friends and family, and the photos of the caskets lying side by side tagged at many hearts.

Nyeri medic who died alongside daughter buried

In another story, residents of Ihithe Village, Tetu, in Nyeri county, gathered to bid farewell to Shiro Ka Ribui and her daughter.

Bella Shiro, a clinical officer, died days after posting her thoughts and struggles with mental health on social media.

Despite pleading for help online, most of her followers did little to save her until her death.
