Kirinyaga MP Njeri Maina has joined the faction of Mt Kenya leaders within the Kenya Kwanza formation who have vowed to cushion Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua against political humiliations.

In the recent past, murmurs have been rife over a supposed uneasiness within the ruling coalition.

Hardliners within the outfit have been issuing telling statements revealing the fallout that could be simmering between the deputy president and his boss, President William Ruto.

What are Gachagua's loyalists saying?

For instance, while Gachagua advances the 'one man, one vote, one shilling' narrative as regards revenue allocation for the region, those behind the president have been opposed to it.

With his stance, Gachagua found himself in the bad books of a couple of Kenya Kwanza loyalists who rally behind Ruto.

The insecure lot behind the deputy president then started to sense the likelihood of him being elbowed out of the power mantle.

They argue a host of unmentioned leaders from the region are conniving to dislodge the deputy president while endearing themselves to the president.

It is for the foregoing that Maina and her like-minded politicians vowed not to let Gachagua alone.

"Are we going to support Rigathi Gachagua? Will we place him in our prayers? Are we going to back him (hapa kwa ground)? Are we going to let people joke about him? Just take your pens and note books. When the time comes for us to face off, they will find us here," she told TUKO.co.ke.
"Anyone who thinks that this is about the president and his deputy is misguided. It is a message to the selfish leaders from the Mt. Kenya region who are falling over themselves to replace Rigathi Gachagua," she added.

On the Finance Bill 2024, Njeri stated that they would interrogate every clause with the interests of the common citizenry in mind before voting.

She seemed to imply they would not be programmed to vote in a certain pattern devoid of their understanding of the proposals in the bill.

"We will look at the Finance Bill 2024 objectively, and make amendments if necessary to cushion the common mwananchi," she said.

What did Governor Kahiga say of Gachagua's humiliations?

Earlier, Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga had also cautioned against any plans to undermine Gachagua in Kenya Kwanza.

He said the Mt Kenya electorate would not allow Gachagua to be mistreated like was the case of Ruto with former president Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kahiga added that Gachagua was not appointed to his current post; instead, he was elected like any other leader and deserves respect as he is the country's substantive second in command.

He pointed out that the significant votes from Mt Kenya made Gachagua the deputy president and that he was not holding the position out of any favours.
