Kitui - The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has apprehended a former parliamentary aspirant, Militonic Mwendwa Kitute, for impersonating senior anti-graft officials.

Kitute was taken into custody on Saturday, April 20, after his arrest at his residence, following an investigation.

It was discovered that he was allegedly issuing counterfeit integrity clearance certificates to job seekers in exchange for money.

Additionally, he was found in possession of a firearm and seven mobile phones, all of which were seized by the authorities.

Is Militonic Mwenda a former criminal?

According to the statement, EACC labelled Kitute as "an armed and dangerous criminal" due to his prior convictions.

"The suspect, Militonic Mwendwa Kitute, was tracked by EACC Detectives from Nairobi to his Kitui home where he was arrested on Saturday 4am. His firearm and seven mobile phones are among the items confiscated from him," the statement reads.

Mwendwa was detained at Kilimani Police Station and is set to be arraigned at Milimani Law Courts today, Monday, April 22.

Why did EACC arrest Mandera South MP

Meanwhile, the investigation body has been going after senior government officials who allegedly involved themselves in corruption scandals.

The former Mandera South MP, Adan Haji, was among the officials nabbed in early February 2024 after he was linked to corrupt dealings involving KSh 51,456,006.

The EACC stated that the former lawmaker swindled money while serving as a County Executive Officer member for tourism in the Kwale county government.

Haji used his hotel, run by his wife and son, to conduct business with the employer without disclosing his stake in the deal during the tendering and award process.
