Michael Oyier's Daughter Fights Back Tears As She Pays Tribute To Dad: "He Was A Great Man"

Late journalist Michael Oyier has been laid to rest at his home in Homabay county.

Oyier died on April 20 while undergoing treatment at The Nairobi Hospital.

During the funeral service, Oyier's daughter, Abigael, delivered a touching tribute, speaking from the heart about the deep pain of losing her father while also celebrating his life and influence.

Abigael described her father's death and subsequent burial as a nightmare, expressing her profound grief and sense of loss.

"My father's burial has always been a nightmare in my head," she said. "I never thought it would come this quick, and I will really miss him."

She reminisced about the joyful moments she shared with her father, including their conversations, laughter, and the lessons he imparted.

"I'll miss the talks, the laughs, the lectures. I'll miss genuinely everything," she shared, her voice breaking with emotion.

Despite the overwhelming grief, Abigael remained composed as she addressed the mourners, acknowledging that her father would always be with her in spirit.

"Although he's gone, I know deep down he's still here with all of us," she said. "He's still here comforting us; he's looking down at us."

Abigael on carrying on her father's legacy

Abigael expressed her hope that she would continue to honour her father's legacy by living a life that reflected his values and love for people.

"I hope that as I go on to live without him I'll be able to fulfil his legacy and manage to do everything I do to be able to live up to his name because he really was a great man..a man that loved and a man that was easy to be loved."

Abigael also expressed her gratitude to the mourners and the people of Homabay County for their support during this difficult time.

"All that is happening...all tears that drop, all smiles that are made, all hugs that I'm given...I really appreciate it," she concluded, "I appreciate all the support from all the people in Homabay County."

Abigael's moving speech during Michael Oyier's requiem mass

Earlier, Abigael moved mourners after disclosing that her father was her best friend.

Abigael, speaking at the former KTN news anchor's requiem mass, remembered how her dad used to take her to meetings and errands.

She said that at first, she didn't understand what impact it would have on her, that she wouldn't be where she was in its absence.

Abigail was also happy that her dad finally married his wife and got the life he always wanted, as well as help in taking care of the kids.
