National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has approved an impeachment motion against the Cabinet Secretary of Agriculture Mithika Linturi due to the counterfeit fertilisers sold to farmers.
According to the Speaker, the parliament found out the CS stormed into manufacturing plants and purported to revoke licences without conducting investigations.

"I find that the proposed motion by Bumula MP Jack Wamboka meets the requirements of article 152 of the constitution and standing order 66 to form the threshold required for a member to move a motion for the dismissal of a CS," said Wetang'ula.
He further mentioned that Linturi had failed to demonstrate professionalism in carrying out the duties of the office and in a manner that entails public confidence and in the integrity of the office.
Additionally, the House found out that the CS failed to secure the trust of Kenyans when he approved the procurement of fake fertilisers and hence exhibited gross misconduct.
The speaker approved the motion, signalling for it to proceed to the next stage.
A section of MPs led by minority leader Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi lauded the speaker for making history, urging other members to support the motion and vote for the benefit of the defenceless.
"Today you have made history. I just want to thank you very much and I want to appeal to my colleagues to turn out in their large numbers. I want this house to be full to the brim on Thursday so that we can speak on one voice in defence of the defenceless," said Wandayi.
The date for the debate has been set for May 2.
Meanwhile, the government had promised to compensate farmers who bought the KEL fertilisers.
However, to be compensated, a farmer must lodge formal complaints by filling out a Claim Declaration Form available at the NCPB depots or selling centres from which they acquired the inputs.
Besides filling out the forms, the farmers were asked to present their original national ID cards and evidence of purchase including the exhibits where applicable.
