Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi is not off the hook yet after more than 100 MPs signed a petition to impeach him on the fake fertiliser scandal.

Bumula MP Jack Wamboka said he has collected the signatures from both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio MPs, including MPs from Linturi's background in Meru to have the National Assembly discuss the motion of his impeachment over fake fertiliser.

"Members who have signed are from across both political divide. Kenya Kwanza and Azimio MPs have signed the petition. Even some members from Meru. This is a moral question to the citizens of Kenya, and we are asking the Speaker to approve this motion," he stated.

Why Wamboka wants Linturi impeached

According to Wamboka, the evidence presented showed Linturi was unfit to hold the office. He further claimed there was massive mismanagement and incompetence in the ministry.

"The evidence presented in the National Assembly paints a distressing picture of negligence, mismanagement, and potentially criminal activities within the Ministry of Agriculture under the leadership of Linturi," he said.

In solidarity with Wamboka, Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere who is a member of the National Assembly Agriculture Committee, said Linturi should resign as investigations continued.

"As investigations, we want to ask CS Linturi to resign, because investigations cannot be done while he is still in office," she stated.

The move to file a motion to impeach Linturi, is in accordance with Article 152 of the constitution.

Article 152 (6) of the Constitution states that a member of the National Assembly, supported by at least one-quarter of all the members of the Assembly, may propose a motion requiring the President to dismiss a Cabinet secretary.

Boni Khalwale asks Ruto to arrest Linturi

This comes barely a week after Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale asked President William Ruto arrested over fake fertiliser.

He noted Linturi was unfit to hold public office and should be arrested over the loss farmers incurred by purchasing fake fertiliser.
