Murang'a - A devastating tragedy has unfolded in Kiganjo village, Gitugi Ward in the Mathioya Constituency because of the increased rainfall in the country.

On Monday, April 29, three houses were destroyed by landslides, claiming the lives of at least four individuals, with two more individuals still unaccounted for.

Tragically, families found themselves buried under the debris alongside their livestock, compounding the horror of the situation.

What led to the landslides in Murang'a?

Ramogi TV reported that the calamity, triggered by relentless heavy rains, weakened the structural integrity of the houses, leading to their collapse.

Prompt response teams, comprising members from the Murang’a county government and the Kenya Red Cross, swiftly initiated a rescue operation at the site of the disaster.

Concurrently, two survivors of the landslide were transported to a medical facility for urgent treatment, highlighting the critical nature of the incident.

Mother and child die in Sindo

Meanwhile, on Sunday, April 28, a mother and her child died after they were swept by floods in Sindo town following heavy rains in the region.

The duo was travelling to Sindo when the floods swept them. Two people were also reported missing and other 50 households were displaced.

Homa Bay county governor Gladys Wanga urged the residents to be cautious as the country continues to receive heavy rains.
