Heavy rainfall continues to descend on the beautiful county of Kenya, but the results are catastrophic, with the rains wreaking havoc and causing destruction.

Mathare Valley destroyed by floods

A video of Mathare Valley, Nairobi residents rendered hopeless and homeless following heavy rainfalls is making rounds online.

The heartbreaking clip captured the desolate state of the stranded residents after the floods invaded their homes.

"Live scenes from Mathare Valley," read the caption on the viral video that sparked mixed reactions.

A young lady could be heard expressing her pain and disappointment as she panned the camera to show the massive destruction caused by the floods.

Governor Johnson Sakaja called out

Houses were submerged as residents, including young children, sought refuge on the mabati roofs.

"People are dying. People are losing their lives. Where are our leaders? Look at people on top of their houses," she tried calling out politicians and leaders inclduing governor Johnson Sakaja to do something about their dire situation.

She asked the leaders to evacuate the residents from the banks as they risked their lives, especially the children.

She zoomed into a house where little kids assembled on the roof, looking confused and distressed.

How to save life during flooding season

In another story, floods killed at least 35 people and destroyed unquantifiable amounts of property in most parts of the country.

The floods that displaced thousands of Kenyans were caused by heavy rains that had been pounding most parts of the country since the Easter holiday.

A Kenyan health expert shared some precautionary tips to help save lives during the flooding season.
