Nairobi - A motorist who assaulted a Kasarani traffic police officer at Mirema Junction along Kamiti Road has been arrested at his residence in Kayole.

Another police officer, Sammy Ondimu, reported that Ian Njoroge assaulted Jacob Ogendo, who has diabetes and has a significant wound on his leg.

In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke, Ondimu described Ogendo as a formerly calm officer who avoided conflicts even at his workplace.

"Njoroge's actions affected me knowing that he physically assaulted a harmless officer known to me. I worked with Ogendo at KICC before he later joined traffic and never did I witness him engage in any altercation.
"Ogendo is diabetic, and his condition only became known to the public after the assault. He has been seeking treatment and being that he was down, he could not defend himself," said Ondimu.

Sammy Ondimu urges youths to be careful

Ondimu, who regularly engages with youth in schools to discuss matters of crime, urged young people to be vigilant, emphasising that their actions can have lifelong consequences.

He encouraged parents to counsel their children actively, noting the challenges young people face in finding employment, especially if they have a criminal record.

"Our youths must be very careful. Parents also have a role to play in their children's upbringing. Njoroge, at 19, has completely ruined his life. Once your fingerprints are captured, you will never get employment anywhere. Always know that your actions have consequences and some can be life-threatening," he advised.

Ondimu expressed concern about the potential escalation of the situation if Njoroge had been armed with more dangerous weapons.

Njoroge will appear in court on June 3rd.

How did Ian Njoroge assault Jacob Ogendo?

The incident occurred when Njoroge's vehicle obstructed traffic by making a U-turn. After Ogendo stopped and directed the vehicle to Kasarani Police Station, Njoroge took matters into his own hands.

The viral video capturing the assault shows Njoroge physically attacking Ogendo, who does not retaliate due to his injuries.

Civilians intervened to rescue Ogendo and rushed him to Crestview Mother and Child Wellness Centre Kasarani before he was referred to Mama Lucy Hospital for further treatment.
