As the country comes to terms with the aftermath of the destructive floods, residents in Naaisuya and Olorroito villages in Narok have come together to bring back life to the two villages.

Why Narok residents are contributing KSh 500

The residents decided to rebuild the bridge linking the two villages to Narok Town after floods swept it away following heavy rains.

The residents were asked to contribute KSh 500 to acquire materials to repair the bridge and open up the two villages. At the same time, they waited for the government to offer a permanent solution.

"The bridge connects Naaisuya and Olorroito villages to Narok town. Each community member contributed KSh 500 towards this initiative," a resident stated.

As Citizen Digital reported, the residents acquired two strong poles lying to each end, which is not practically safe for young school children.

However, Emmanuel Kipruto from Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERA) said the authority will ensure residents' safety as the bridge's construction continues.

The county's communication on the state of the bridge

Narok is among the counties worst hit by floods. In January, the county was alarmed by flash floods and potential flooding.

The County Department of Disaster Management urged residents to be alert and cautious while using the bridge.

Residents have also been urged to take in the weatherman's forecast for the county concerning the flooding situation.

Two men rescued after their car is swept away

While residents in areas within the county prone to flooding were asked to move out, police rescued two men in Esupetai area after their car was swept way by floods.

The two men were passing on a flooded curved road at Sekenani-Narok road when their car was swept away.
