Monetary prizes London Marathon winners get

As reported by the Mirror, the London Marathon will distribute a minimum of $621,000 (KSh 81.4 million) in prize money to elite racers today. Notably, the race is making history by providing equal prize money for the wheelchair categories.

The champions in all four primary races, including male, female, and both wheelchair divisions, will receive a substantial prize of $55,000 (about KSh 7 million) for their achievements.

The runners-up will receive a cash prize of $30,000 (KSh 3.9 million), while those who come in third place will be awarded $22,500 (KSh 2.9 million).

The return gradually decreases until the 12th position, which is valued at $1,000 (KSh 131,000) - although the wheelchair events are limited to the top 10.

Additional, highly profitable bonuses are available for achieving fast completion times. Any female athlete who completes a marathon in under 2 hours and 16 minutes or any male athlete who completes a marathon in under 2 hours and 2 minutes will receive a cash prize of $150,000 (KSh 19.7 million).

Runners who complete the race in a time of 2:17 or 2:03 will receive a cash prize of $100,000 (about KSh 13 million). Those who finish in 2:17:30 or 2:03:30 will be awarded $75,000 (KSh 9.8 million), while a time of 2:18:30 or 2:04 would earn runners $50,000 (KSh 6.5 million).

Peres Jepchirchir will receive $55,000 (KSh 7.2 million) in prize money after winning the race and a bonus of $100,000 (KSh 13 million) after running the race in less than 2:17.
