A plane carrying six passengers and one pilot fell out of the sky and crashed near Butler Memorial Airport in Bates County, Missouri.

The pilot of the single-engine Cessna C206 parachuted out of the plane, leaving it to crash in a hay field close to the airport.

How did the Cessna C206 crash?

Luckily, the six passengers were all skydivers who jumped clear of the Cessna before it struck the ground.

According to a social media statement by the Bates County Sheriff's Office, the wreckage of the ill-fated aircraft was found east of the runways.

"At approximately 1pm. today, dispatch was notified about a small plane that crashed at the Butler," read part of the statement.

Details indicate that the pilot wore a parachute and jumped from the plane before it crashed.

Where was the Cessna pilot found?

He was found at a hangar at the airport when the sheriff’s office members arrived.

The survivors were all treated at the scene for minor injuries and allowed to return home.

As of the time this report was written, the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were investigating the incident.

Preliminary information from the agency indicates that the plane was on a "skydiving mission" before it ran into trouble.

Pilot of World War II-era aircraft crashes
