Sergeant Cliphonce Omondi who passed away alongside Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) General Francis Ogolla will be buried on May 3 at Ndiwo village in Siaya county.

In an interview with Nation, Sergeant Omondi's sister-in-law revealed that he sent her chama money at approximately 1:30 pm, just moments before his unfortunate death.

"On that day, Cliff sent me money for a chama we usually have at home. At around 7 pm, I got a phone call from Cliff's in-law notifying me of his death, " she said.

The family also praised Omondi's personality, describing him as a kind man who was always ready to help whenever he could.

The family further appealed to the government and well-wishers for financial assistance, stating that they have limited funds to assist with burial preparations.

" We need water, food, chairs...and therefore we are appealing to well-wishers even if it the government that can come to our aid," one family member said.

How did Cliphonce Omondi die?

On April 18, Sergeant Omondi passed on alongside Ogolla in a helicopter crash in Kaben, Elgeyo Marakwet.

Along with them, nine other high-ranking military officials also passed away, while two occupants survived.

The Kenya Air Force Huey helicopter was transporting its occupants to the North Rift region, which was plagued by bandits.

Their visit was aimed at inspecting the renovation work on several schools in the area and visiting troops deployed there under Operation Maliza Uhalifu.
